Dear Potential Donor,
You have an opportunity to support a young woman to attend True Love Movement’s Self-Esteem Saturday School. The mission of True Love Movement is to empower Black people to achieve optimal health and wellness through education, community activism and the production of creative arts and media all of which promote self-awareness and self-love.
My name is Ayanna Molina and I am Founder and Director of True Love Movement. I am a Nationally Certified Counselor, as well as an advocate for all women and children. As a young woman, I experienced very low self-esteem that presented itself as high-risk behavior. I know what it takes to overcome pressures of society and I know what it takes to turn your own life around. It takes self-awareness and a healthy self-esteem.
Self Esteem Saturday School is an eight-week intensive program designed to support young women considered to be “high risk”.
High-risk behaviors may include:
· Behavior problems at school, community or home
· Fighting with peers or adults
· Promiscuous behavior including sex, “sexting” and inappropriate attire
· Aggressive behavior
· Eating disorders
· Drug/alcohol use
· Depression
The Self-Esteem Saturday School curriculum is designed to uplift and empower young women, but is “real” enough to get to the core of why young women choose negative behaviors. The goal of the group is to increase self-esteem, but the gains can be so much more.
Every Saturday for eight weeks, I will facilitate this psycho-educational group of 6 girls aged 11-13 for 3 hours a session. Each session will be on a different topic that impacts our young women (ex: the effects of media on women, coping skills through self-expression, healthy choices for a healthy life). The participants will be encouraged to talk candidly about their experiences and evaluate their own behavior. Individual support will be available, if needed.
Most often, young women in need of this support come from families that cannot afford this service. To alleviate the financial strain of parents having to pay for their daughters to attend the Self-Esteem Saturday School, I am calling out to individuals, community organizations, churches and schools to donate to the Saturday School.
We know that our young women are a precious resource and the future mothers of our next generations. Let’s all do our part to uplift and empower her right now.
The potential gains are priceless. Please consider supporting a young woman for the opportunity to be a part of True Love Movement’s Self-Esteem Saturday School, by donating any dollar amount. Thank you!
In Solidarity,
Ayanna Molina
